Born and raised in Suffolk County, Victor Irizarry began his construction career in 1972 as a carpenter. After 9 years experience, Victor formed a carpentry company, eventually doing framing subcontracting for most of the larger developers in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. In the early 80’s he began to spot-build in Brookhaven Township and eventually worked his way up to subdivisions throughout Suffolk County. His latest endeavor is Whitford Development, Inc., established in 1995. As sole proprietor, he has been able to mold the company, using lessons learned from his peers and mentors in the industry. His accomplishments to date are a blend of his own vision and the contributions of his mentors, many of whom are current or former LIBI members.
An active LIBI member for many years, Victor became LIBI President in 2007. He is honored to have been given the opportunity to head the organization that has given so much guidance to him throughout the years. While a part of LIBI, Victor has helped raise funds for 9/11 charities, built and donated a playhouse for the disabled children, contributed to the Long Island Home Builders Care Scholarship Fund and served on countless committees. He has been a Board member for seven years and has served as Secretary, Treasurer and Vice President.
A highly organized and efficient business model allows Victor to complete a large number of homes using just a handful of key employees operating effectively and efficiently in regard to construction supervision, Town & County permitting, financing, sales, customer service, and purchasing.
Victor’s zest for tackling and completing projects in a timely and cost effective manner has served his corporations and associates well over the years. His team approach to challenges brings about quick and well-thought out solutions to situations as they develop.
Looking forward, with this increased pressure to limit development countywide, Victor will continue to explore avenues to keep his vision alive on Long Island. Through progressive thinking on issues such as smart growth, affordable housing, redevelopment of Brownfield, and multifamily development, Victor hopes to strike a balance between Long Island’s ever growing housing needs and land preservation. Additionally, Whitford Development has embraced the Energy Star program and is working diligently to build safe and energy efficient homes.
